Uses for Stainless Steel Grate Magnet Bars
These rectangular stainless steel bars are component parts used to construct Grate Magnet systems for magnetic separation applications.
Grate magnets are commonly installed in food processing and other material-handling environments to help capture unwanted ferrous metal contamination from free-flowing products. They can be positioned within chutes, hoppers and other suitable points along a processing line where raw ingredients, powders, granules or other materials pass across the magnetic separator bars.
When fitted with suitable magnetic separator bars, the assembled grate can attract and retain ferrous contaminants such as:
-
Metal swarf and fragments
-
Iron and steel particles
-
Pieces of ferrous wire
-
Nails
-
Screws and steel fasteners
-
Other unwanted ferrous contamination
This helps prevent captured ferrous material from continuing further through the production process.

Build Your Own Grate Magnet
Each pair of stainless steel mounting bars can be fitted with multiple stainless steel magnetic separator tubes, allowing a grate magnet to be configured for different processing and separation requirements.
The 10 mounting positions spaced at 50mm intervals provide attachment points for compatible separator bars. Stainless steel fixing screws are supplied with the mounting plates for assembly.
Compatible Magnetic Separator Bars are available separately.
Food Processing and Industrial Applications
When assembled with suitable magnetic separator bars, grate magnets can be used in boutique and industrial-scale food processing facilities as well as other commercial processing environments.
Typical applications include installation within:
-
Food processing lines
-
Ingredient handling systems
-
Chutes and hoppers
-
Powder and granular material processing
-
Raw material handling systems
-
Manufacturing and industrial processing equipment
Important Information
These stainless steel bars are structural components and are not magnetic separator bars themselves. Magnetic separator bars must be purchased separately to create a functioning magnetic grate system.
The effectiveness of the completed grate magnet will depend on the type, strength, configuration and positioning of the magnetic separator bars used, as well as the characteristics and flow rate of the material being processed.
Pull Force Information
Pull Force Information
Pull force refers to the maximum holding strength of a magnet. Measured in kilograms, it represents the amount of weight a magnet can support when attached to 10mm thick mild steel, with full, flat, and direct surface-to-surface contact.
A magnet's pull force can be affected by several factors, including its orientation (horizontal vs. vertical) and the presence of any air gaps between the magnet and the surface it’s attached to.
